Ruadh Stac Mòr, at 918-919 metres — "Big Red Peak" — is the fifth and final Munro of the classic Fisherfield Round, its slopes a jumble of red scree and boulders reached by weaving a way up through crags, providing a stark contrast in terrain from the softer, sandier ground on neighbouring Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair.
Reached from A' Mhaighdean via the Poll Eadar dha Stac bealach, a clear path leads to the foot of the mountain before the ascent begins in earnest via a scramble up red stone scree — notably different underfoot from anything else encountered on the round so far. The summit is reached by picking a way through big blocks of red rock, with expansive views back across the whole Fisherfield wilderness completing what is, for most, the final summit of a truly epic day.
From here, the descent leads back down towards Shenavall bothy or a chosen wild camp, retracing much of the outward route or following an alternative line depending on conditions and remaining energy.
The full Fisherfield Round taking in all five Munros — Sgùrr Bàn, Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair, Beinn Tarsuinn, A' Mhaighdean, and Ruadh Stac Mòr — from Corrie Hallie or Shenavall is a genuinely epic undertaking, typically requiring an overnight stay at the bothy or a nearby wild camp, with the whole traverse often taking sixteen hours or more of walking across around 27 miles with 8,800 feet of ascent.
The scree ascent demands care, particularly on tired legs at the end of a long round, and the river crossings on any approach to or from Shenavall can become genuinely dangerous in spate — full self-sufficiency, navigation skills, and realistic fitness for a very long day are all essential given the remoteness of this whole area.
There is no direct parking at the mountain itself; Corrie Hallie or Incheril car parks serve as the main starting points, both free, with limited public transport connections.
