Beinn Eunaich

Beinn Eunaich, at 989 metres, is a similar height to neighbouring Beinn a' Chochuill but offers superior views back over that mountain to the Cruachan ridge and down to Loch Awe, with a sizeable summit cairn.

Reached from Beinn a' Chochuill via a pleasant, difficulty-free ridge, the final ascent to Beinn Eunaich follows a straightforward grassy and stony slope with a faint path, with good views down Glen Kinglass towards the isolated Glenkinglas Lodge. The descent begins directly south from the cairn towards the head of Loch Awe, following a grassy, fairly broad ridge — in dry weather the going is good on springy turf, with fine views of Kilchurn Castle ahead. After crossing a couple of peat hags, the path bears right to descend very steep ground south-west, though a slightly less steep alternative exists a little further along the ridge, complicated by crags that require care to avoid.

This final descent is widely regarded as the one genuinely unpleasant section of an otherwise gentle and rewarding day — several regular visitors specifically flag it as steeper and less enjoyable than anything else on the route.

The combined round taking in both Beinn a' Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich from the B8077 layby near Lochawe is a satisfying full day, typically six to eight hours.

While the connecting ridge between the two Munros is genuinely easy walking, the steep final descent from Beinn Eunaich demands full concentration and appropriate footwear, particularly when wet — this should not be underestimated despite the otherwise moderate character of the round.

Parking near the Allt Mhoille bridge on the B8077 is free but limited; a regular bus service runs to nearby Lochawe.
